The King of Kings

The King of Kings

In the US, we don’t have a king. Our political system is governed by one political party or another, depending on how the election swings.

Spiritually, we have a King, Jesus, who governs our ideology!

During Jesus's time, King Pilate governed the people and imparted his will to them. When Jesus proclaimed that people should put their faith in God, not a worldly king, the authorities became threatened by this idea.

This phrase, "I am the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega," is a biblical reference to Jesus Christ, found in the Book of Revelation (specifically Revelation 22:13), where Jesus identifies himself as the beginning and end of all things, signifying his eternal nature and power over creation; "Alpha" and "Omega" being the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet respectively, representing the totality of existence.

Key points about this phrase:

  • Meaning: Jesus is saying that he is the source of all things and will ultimately be the culmination of all things, signifying his position as the ultimate reality.

  • Biblical context: This phrase appears multiple times in Revelation, with Jesus describing himself as the one who is beyond time and encompasses all creation.

  • Significance: It declares Jesus' divine power and authority, highlighting his eternal existence and role as the ultimate ruler.

  • Unlike the Worldly kingdom, which is passed down through family lines, Jesus’ kingdom is passed down to all of us through the grace of God, baptism, Christ's death on the cross, and subsequent resurrection. Unlike the worldly Kings who force their power onto their subjects, God gave us Free will and a choice to accept or reject His authority. As long as we freely receive God's love, we will forever reside in His Kingdom!
